Risk Factors:
- Smoking- smoking cigarettes or cigars have the risk twice as much as nonsmokers
- Being male- men have the risk of getting it twice as much as women
- Obese- extra weight may cause a change in hormones which grants a higher risk.
- Using certain pain medication for a long period of time.
- Having advanced kidney disease, or long-term dialysis - a treatment for people with kidneys that have stopped working.
- Having certain genetic conditions-
- Having a family history of kidney cancer- especially high in siblings
- Being exposed to certain chemicals
- Having high blood pressure
- Having lymphoma
Symptoms:
- Blood in your urine
- A lump in your side or abdomen
- A loss of appetite
- A pain in your side that doesn't go away
- Weight loss that occurs for no reason
- Fever that lasts for weeks and isn't caused by a cold or other infection
- Extreme fatigue
- Anemia, a condition marked by a deficiency of red blood cells or of hemoglobin in blood.
- Swelling in your ankles or legs
